By peeing in the shower, you can save 1,157 gallons of water a year.

A Brazilian environmental group launched a campaign and found that if a single household flushed the toilet one fewer time a day, it would save 1,157 gallons of water each year. That’s from one household not flushing once a day. The more households volunteer to pee in the shower, the higher the already significant number will go.

Urine is sterile, thanks to our wondrous kidneys. So, as long as the water is running while you're peeing, you're all good. Peeing in the shower is harmless unless someone has a disease like hepatitis that pee can transfer.

"Vasocongestion" is the medical term for "blue balls”. Fact, WTF Fact, Amazing Fact, Uber Fact, Vasocongestion, Blue Balls

"Vasocongestion" is the medical term for "blue balls”.

More: That Feeling

Vasocongestion is the swelling of bodily tissues caused by increased vascular blood flow and a localized increase in blood pressure. Typical causes of vasocongestion in humans includes menstruation, sexual arousal, REM sleep, strong emotions, illnesses and allergic reactions.

Vasocongestion is essential for sexual procreation in mammals since this is the force that causes the hardening of a penis during an erection. The same force leads to the hardening of the clitoris and vaginal lubrication during sexual arousal.

Other forms of vasocongestion during human sexual activity include sex flush and the swelling of nipples in both men and women. Unpleasant side effects of sex-related vasocongestion may lead to the cramp-like pain of "blue balls" in males and an unpleasant pelvic "heaviness" in women.

If "once in a blue moon" is used literally, it means once every 2-3 years. Fact, WTF Fact, Amazing Fact, Uber Fact, Moon, Lunar Cycle, Gregorian Calendar

If "once in a blue moon" is used literally, it means once every 2-3 years.

More: The Neutron Joke

'Once in a blue moon' is an idiom that means, almost never. But, the term 'blue moon' has traditionally referred to an "extra" moon, where a year which normally has 12 moons has 13 instead. The phrase has nothing to do with the actual color of the moon.

One lunation (an average lunar cycle) is 29.53 days. There are about 365.24 days in a tropical year. Therefore, about 12.37 lunations (365.24 days divided by 29.53 days) occur in a tropical year. In the widely used Gregorian calendar, there are 12 months (the word month is derived from moon) in a year, and normally there is one full moon each month. Each calendar year contains roughly 11 days more than the number of days in 12 lunar cycles. The extra days accumulate, so every two or three years (seven times in the 19-year Metonic cycle), there is an extra full moon. The extra moon necessarily falls in one of the four seasons, giving that season four full moons instead of the usual three, and, hence, a blue moon.

Gerald Ford, the 38th president of the United States would turn to his Secret Service agents and loudly proclaim things like "Jesus, was that you? Show some class!" instead of owning up to his farts.

More: Value Of Pi

Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. (July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was an American politician who served as the 38th President of the United States from 1974 to 1977. Prior to this he was the 40th Vice President of the United States, serving from 1973 until President Richard Nixon's resignation in 1974. Becoming president upon Richard Nixon's departure on August 9, 1974, he claimed the distinction as the first and to date the only person to have served as both Vice President and President of the United States without being elected to either office.

Ford had a very whimsical job for his secret service agents, a rather frustrating one if seen from those poor agent's eyes. Gerald Ford would blame his farts on his secret service people, conspicuously saying things like, "Jesus, was that you? Show some class!" This must leave the agents red-faced, wishing Ford wasn't their president.

Ford appeared in a popular series of televised press conferences with Illinois Senator Everett Dirksen, in which they proposed Republican alternatives to Johnson's policies. Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of USA, expressed his views on the matter at the time, and said, "Jerry Ford is so dumb he can't fart and chew gum at the same time." The press, reported this as "Gerald Ford can't walk and chew gum at the same time."

Life expectancy increases as we age; for each New Year we live, our life expectancy increases by three months.

More: Terrible Prom

Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average time an organism is expected to live, based on the year of their birth, their current age and other demographic factors including sex.

Life expectancy increases with age as the individual survives the higher mortality rates associated with childhood. Less developed regions of the world have experienced a steady increase in life expectancy since World War II, although not all regions have shared in these improvements. The most dramatic and rapid gains have occurred in East Asia, where life expectancy at birth increased from less than 45 years in 1950 to more than 74 years today.

Some experts assume that life expectancy must be approaching an upper limit, but data on life expectancy between 1840 and 2007 show a steady increase averaging about three months of life per year. The country with the highest average life expectancy has varied over time. In 1840 it was Sweden and today it is Japan—but the pattern is strikingly similar. So far there is little evidence that life expectancy has stopped rising even in Japan.

The oldest confirmed recorded age for any human is 122 years. This is referred to as the "maximum life span", which is the upper boundary of life, the maximum number of years any human is known to have lived.

A test of all children of the two identical twin couples would show up as if all children had the same two parents. Strictly genetically speaking, since it was two pairs of identical twins reproducing, all of those children would be (genetic) siblings, not (genetic) cousins.

Our modern paternity testing's sensitivity would show them as siblings, but technically, due to random mutation shortly after the zygote split and other environmental factors many sets of identical twins do have base-pair differences (although they would need much more in-depth analysis to catch than a simple paternity/maternity test would provide).

Hookah smoke contains multiple toxic chemicals. Water does not filter out many of these chemicals. Hookah smoke contains toxic chemicals that come from the burning of the charcoal, tobacco, and flavorings. Hookah smokers inhale many chemicals that can cause cancer, heart disease, lung disease, and other health problems. Hookah smoking increases the amount of carbon monoxide (CO) in a person's body to eight times their normal level. Compared to smoking one cigarette, a single hookah session exposes users to more carbon dioxide and PAHs, similar levels of nicotine, and lower levels of tobacco-specific nitrosamines.

During a typical one-hour hookah session, a user expels into the air 2-10 times the amount of cancer-causing chemicals and other harmful chemicals compared to a cigarette smoker. A typical hookah smoking session delivers 1.7 times the nicotine dose of one cigarette and the nicotine absorption rate in daily water-pipe users is equivalent to smoking 10 cigarettes per day.

The cubs initially lack confidence when confronted with adult lions for the first time, other than their mother. They soon begin to immerse themselves in the pride life, however, playing among themselves or attempting to initiate play with the adults. Lionesses with cubs of their own are more likely to be tolerant of another lioness's cubs than lionesses without cubs. The tolerance of the male lions toward the cubs varies – sometimes, a male will patiently let the cubs play with his tail or his mane, whereas another may snarl and bat the cubs away.

Male lions are generally more likely to share food caught by the pride with cubs than with lionesses.

More: When Girls See A Cockroach

The wood frog has garnered attention by biologists over the last century because of its freeze tolerance, relatively great degree of terrestrialism (for a ranid), interesting habitat associations (peat bogs, vernal pools, uplands), and relatively long-range movements.

Wood frogs can tolerate the freezing of their blood and other tissues. Urea is accumulated in tissues in preparation for overwintering, and liver glycogen is converted in large quantities to glucose in response to internal ice formation. Both urea and glucose act as cryoprotectants to limit the amount of ice that forms and to reduce osmotic shrinkage of cells. Frogs can survive many freeze/thaw events during winter if no more than about 65% of the total body water freezes.

The rest (68%) is used for manufacturing and other industrial processes, and sodium chloride is one of the largest inorganic raw materials used by volume. Its major chemical products are caustic soda and chlorine, which are separated by the electrolysis of a pure brine solution. These are used in the manufacture of PVC, plastics, paper pulp and many other inorganic and organic compounds. Salt is also used as a flux in the production of aluminium.

The World Health Organization recommends that all adults should consume less than 2,000 mg of sodium (which is contained in 5 gram of salt) per day. Guidelines by the United States in 2010 recommend that people with hypertension, African Americans, and middle-aged and older adults should limit consumption to no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day and meet the potassium recommendation of (4,700 mg/day) with a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables.

More: When Bae Accepts Your Friend Request

Tigons can exhibit visible characteristics from both parents: they can have both spots from the mother (lions carry genes for spots—lion cubs are spotted and some adults retain faint markings) and stripes from the father. Any mane that a male tigon may have will appear shorter and less noticeable than a lion's mane and is closer in type to the ruff of a male tiger. It is a common misconception that tigons are smaller than lions or tigers. They do not exceed the size of their parent species because they inherit growth-inhibitory genes from the lioness mother, but they do not exhibit any kind of dwarfism or miniaturization; they often weigh around 180 kilograms (400 lb).

At the Alipore Zoo in India, a female tigon named Rudhrani, born in 1971, was successfully mated to an Asiatic lion named Debabrata. The rare, second generation hybrid was called a litigon. Rudhrani produced seven litigons in her lifetime.

A tigon's lifespan is 18-22 years (in captivity), whereas a tiger's lifespan is 20-26 years (in captivity), and a lion's lifespan is 25-30 years (in captivity). Tigons are really prone to cancer and other illnesses. As reports have recorded, the cause of death of most tigons is usually cancer.

Ligers continue growing throughout their entire lives due to a genetic disorder called growth dysplasia. They grow twice the size of their Tiger mama and Lion Papa. The largest cat in the world is a 418 Kg liger.

More: When Someone Near You Farts

The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion (Panthera leo) and a female tiger (Panthera tigris). The liger has parents in the same genus but of different species. The liger is distinct from the similar hybrid tigon. The liger is the largest of all known extant felines.
The liger is often believed to represent the largest known cat in the world. Males reach a total length of 3 to 3.6 m, meaning they are larger than large Siberian tiger males. Imprinted genes may be a factor contributing to huge liger size.

Hybrid growth disorders refer to reduced growth or overgrowth in an organism that is a hybrid of two different species. It may be referred to as a growth dysplasia, especially when resulting in overgrowth, although this terminology may be confusing since the term dysplasia is commonly used to imply an impending cancer. However, a hybrid growth disorder is not caused by cancer.

When a male lion mates with a tigress, his genes promote large offspring because lions are adapted to a competitive breeding strategy. The tigress does not inhibit the growth because she is adapted to a non-competitive strategy. Therefore the offspring (liger) grows larger and stronger than either parent because the effects do not cancel each other out. Ligers take several years to reach full adult size, but it is a myth that ligers never stop growing.

Another possible hypothesis is that the growth dysplasia results from the interaction between lion genes and tiger womb environment. The tiger produces a hormone that sets the fetal liger on a pattern of growth that does not end throughout his life. The hormonal hypothesis is that the cause of the male liger's growth is his sterility - essentially, the male liger remains in the pre-pubertal growth phase. This is not upheld by behavioral evidence - despite being sterile, many male ligers become sexually mature and mate with females. In addition, female ligers also attain great size but are fertile.
